Hot tub electrical

More than running a wire to the backyard.

365 Electric handles the electrical side properly, including the details that have to happen before the tub is ready to use.

A spa can be one of the biggest loads in the house. Before anything is installed, someone has to check the service and panel, plan the route, place the disconnect, sort out bonding and protection, and get the permit and inspections done. That's the job.

1.5 m min. 1 2 3 4 5

Simplified illustration, not to scale. Every installation is planned around the tub's specifications and the property.

  1. Service and panel capacity

Can your existing service and panel carry the tub on top of everything the house already runs? That is a calculation, not a guess.

  2. Dedicated circuit and GFCI protection

A circuit sized to the tub's specifications, with the ground fault protection the Canadian Electrical Code requires for hot tubs and spas.

  3. The route

Through the wall, along the house or underground. In Winnipeg, the trench and bonding are inspected before anything is covered.

  4. Disconnect

Readily accessible, outdoors when the tub is outdoors, and at least 1.5 m from the tub under the current Manitoba Electrical Code.

  5. Bonding

What gets bonded depends on the tub and what it sits on. Some installations need a bonding conductor installed around the tub.

  6. Permit and inspection

An electrical permit with the City of Winnipeg or Manitoba Hydro, and inspections before the tub goes into service.

For homeowners

Bought the hot tub. Now what?

A lot of people call us after the tub is ordered, when the dealer asks who's doing the electrical. These are the questions that usually come up next.

  • Does my electrical panel have enough capacity?
  • Does the tub need 40 A, 50 A, 60 A or something else?
  • Where does the disconnect need to go?
  • Who handles the electrical permit?
  • Does the City of Winnipeg or Manitoba Hydro inspect it?
  • Will wiring need to be trenched through the yard?
  • Does bonding apply to my installation?
  • Should the electrical work happen before the hot tub arrives?
  • What does the electrician need from the hot tub manufacturer?

You don't need the answers before you call. We review the manufacturer's electrical specifications, assess your existing service and panel, work out the right installation approach, take care of the electrical permit and get everything ready for inspection.

Residential

Wiring for the way your house gets used now.

A lot of Winnipeg homes were never wired for an EV in the garage, a hot tub on the deck and a kitchen full of appliances. We upgrade services and panels, rewire, add circuits and track down problems, with the permit and inspection that go with the work.

Commercial

Electrical for shops, offices and commercial buildings.

Commercial work runs on schedules, budgets and inspections. We handle service upgrades, new building wiring, renovations, shop power and lighting retrofits, and plan the work around your business. LED lighting upgrades can qualify for Efficiency Manitoba business lighting incentives.

Insurance restoration

After a fire or flood, the electrical comes first.

Water and fire can leave wiring, panels and devices unsafe even when the lights still come on. We assess the damage, provide electrical inspection reports and do the repairs and rewiring to put things back, for homeowners, businesses and restoration contractors.

How we work

The way electrical work should be done.

  • Permitted, inspected, done to code.

Electrical work in Manitoba has to be permitted and inspected. We treat that as part of the job, not paperwork to get around.

  • Straight answers.

We tell you what the job actually needs. If your panel can handle the new load, you won't be sold an upgrade you don't need.

  • Fair, upfront pricing.

You know what the work involves and what it costs before we start, and the price is explained, not just quoted.

  • Accountable for the work.

The permit is in our name. We answer for the job from the first site visit to the final inspection.

  • Respect for your place.

We keep you informed, respect your time and clean up when the work is done.

  • Family-owned since 2014.

365 Electric is a family business. You deal directly with our small team, not a call centre.
